Call for abstract submissions

The 4th International Congress on Literacy in the 21st Century (ICCL2026), which will take place on November 27th and 28th, 2026, at the Campus of the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, aims to promote and rethink literacy in different areas of knowledge as part of the right to education.
ICCL2026 will provide a forum of interest to the scientific community in general, in which reflections will be stimulated on the key skills for exercising informed, critical, and participatory citizenship in a constantly evolving society.
This meeting is intended to be an opportunity for new scientific collaborations between national and international researchers.
The event is open to the entire scientific and academic community (with or without oral/poster presentation) and will have a hybrid format (in-person and online).

Abstract submission

Abstracts should follow the abstract template (.docx). All abstracts must be submitted through the registration form.


Forms of participation

  1. Oral communication (online and in-person)
  2. Poster (in-person)

Oral presentations will be given in thematic sessions. In these sessions, authors will have 10 minutes to present their work. Authors may participate in oral presentations in person or online.


Poster presentations require the authors to be present. Authors are responsible for printing their posters and must deliver them for display at the check-in time. Poster presentations will be on display throughout the event and will be presented by the authors in the exhibition area during a session held before the morning coffee break.


Session/Symposium Organization/Registration

Authors may submit proposals for Thematic Sessions/Symposiums (Oral Presentation or Poster).
The Thematic Session/Symposium must have at least 4 speakers (including the organizer).
For each proposal, the following must be indicated:

  • Main theme of the proposal: Digital literacy, Emotional literacy, Environmental literacy, Film literacy, Financial literacy, Health literacy, Literacy and art, Literacy, reading and libraries, Management literacy, Media literacy, Quantitative literacy, Scientific literacy, STEM literacy and others.
  • Presentation language: English, Portuguese or Spanish.
  • The organizer of the Thematic Session/Symposium, the titles and authors of all presentations.

Organizers of Thematic Sessions/Symposia should fill out the Session Organizer Form.

Please provide all the requested information and send it by email to 21centuryliteracies@gmail.com, by July 20, 2026, with the subject: ICCL2024_Session/Symposium Registration.


Publication

The full texts of the papers presented at ICCL2024 will be published:

– in the ICCL2026 e-book with ISBN and DOI per individual article.
The limit is 10 pages (including figures/tables and bibliographic references).
When submitting full papers based on accepted abstracts, the following template should be used: [Full Paper Template]
The papers will be evaluated by at least 2 reviewers appointed by the ICCL2026 Scientific Committee.
The final version of the papers must be sent to the email 21centuryliteracies@gmail.com by December 30, 2026.

– in the Interações Journal
(https://revistas.rcaap.pt/interaccoes/). The papers must comply with the journal’s editorial guidelines and will be submitted to peer review.

– In the Latin American Journal of Development (https://ojs.latinamericanpublicacoes.com.br/ojs/index.php/jdev). Articles must adhere to the journal’s editorial guidelines and will be subject to peer review.
